Ype Wenning (1879-1959) was born in Leeuwarden and lived and worked in various cities in The Netherlands, mainly The Hague, but also he made many trips abroad which influenced his art.
Wenning painted mostly town and village views, figures and Frisian landscapes. It was in particular in this last genre that he excelled.
His work is characterized by a broad and impressionistic stroke in beautiful muted colours.
