Willem Hopman (1939) is a Dutch sculptor, painter, graphic and drawing artist from Alkmaar. His education came from Willem Commandeur, another renowned sculptor from this city.
Hopman was one of the first members of the Art Society Alkmaar. He is also a member of the Art Centre Bergen. Next to his artistic activities, he has been a teacher at the Artiance in his hometown.
Despite being primarily a sculptor – working with steel and waste materials – he is also a skillful draughtsman, etcher and painter. His style can be referred to as constructivism, which is clearly visible in these small oil on board paintings by his hand. In my view, his art shows clearly influences and signs of surrealism as well.
Hopman mostly paints abstract and surrealistic landscapes or cityscapes involving surrealistic figures and elements of constructivism, such as geometrical forms and collage-like characteristics. His work sells worldwide.
