Thijs Overmans, born on May 9, 1928, in Rotterdam, is a renowned Dutch painter and graphic artist. He pursued his artistic education at several prestigious institutions, including the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, the Free Academy in The Hague, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. Overmans is known for his membership in notable art groups such as Pulchri Studio, the Posthoorngroep, and the Brabantse Foundation of Visual Artists, which have significantly influenced his artistic journey.

In 1950, Thijs Overmans married fellow artist Meike Sund, marking the beginning of a personal and professional partnership that enriched his life and work. Overmans’s talent and dedication to his craft were recognized early in his career when he won the Jacob Maris Prize in 1958, a prestigious award that celebrates excellence in the visual arts.
