This sketch in charcoal was made by an unknown artist. The work demonstrates the way the artist has worked with composition and how he/she quickly sketches the dynamics of a naked woman.
First, an outline of the position of the shoulders and hips are sketched, then in a quick manner the woman is sketched with rough lines and a lot of courage. In the same way, the artist very roughly captures the shades and more detailed features of the naked body.
And in compository terms, it is interesting to see how the blank space on the right side of the figure reinforces the horizontal line and accentuates the width of the work.
In addition, in the corners marks are visible where the artist has attached tape to the paper which adds to the craftsmanship of the piece. The work seems to come straight from the hands of its creator.
And then the frame… What at first glance appears to be a quick and rough sketch without any monumental appearance, is framed in a very rich wooden frame with gold edges. Is this a well-known artist? Did this have very personal and valuable meaning for the previous owner? It raises several questions. But one thing is certain, partly because of this frame it has become a beautiful artistic piece.
