Corneille was a Dutch painter and one of the founders of the Cobra movement.
Born on July 3, 1922, in Liege, Belgium, Corneille later moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands. The Cobra movement, active from 1948 to 1951, was a group of avant-garde artists from Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The name “Cobra” is derived from the cities Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
Corneille’s artworks are often characterized by vibrant colors, bold shapes, and a sense of spontaneity. He was influenced by various art movements, including Surrealism and Expressionism. His work often features imaginative and fantastical elements, with a focus on the connection between man and nature.
Throughout his career, Corneille explored various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and printmaking. He gained international recognition for his contributions to modern art and exhibited his works worldwide. Corneille continued to create art until his death on September 5, 2010, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France.
