Laboratory still life, 1925

I bought this work at an auction because the old-school materials, instruments and jars appeal to me. It reminds me of scatterbrained inventors and ingenious loners searching for means to improve (or destroy) the world. Never before have I seen a still life of laboratory of this quality. It comes with a monumental golden frame which has all kinds of texts written on the back that I can’t decipher myself. Only the gallery sticker of Horscht Gallery in The Hague is recognisable. The work is dated 1925. All in all, it is an intriguing work of art that speaks to the imagination. It is a piece of history, but also a representation of how society has developed in the last 100 years from this representation into a digital society.
