Jacques de Maillé (1915-1974) was a French artist deeply passionate about the sea, despite never having the opportunity to navigate its vast expanses. His love for the ocean profoundly influenced his artwork, which often depicted maritime themes. Jacques de Maillé was decorated with the Ordre National du Mérite, a prestigious French order of merit. This honor was solicited on his behalf by the head of the Salon de la Marine de Lyon. Additionally, one of his watercolors was presented at the Concours des Beaux Arts de Lyon through the initiative of the painter Nicolas Sokoloff (1899-1985).

To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of his death, the city organized an exhibition of his works. This exhibition ran from Saturday until Sunday, June 30th, 2024. Jacques de Maillé’s legacy continues to be celebrated for his unique ability to capture the essence of the sea in his art, leaving a lasting impression on the world of maritime painting.
