Herengracht, Amsterdam

Louis Landré (1875-1952) was an etcher, watercolourist and pen-and-ink artist born in Utrecht. He became best known as a skilled draughtsman and watercolourist of topographical cityscapes. Most of these have Amsterdam as their subject, the city where he lived and worked from 1896 onwards.

He was also a regular visitor to Hotel Spaander in Volendam in the early 20th century, where he painted the local fishing population in cheerful colours.

Louis Landré wrote two children’s books, which he provided with drawings, and he also illustrated publications by others.
