In this work, his architectural background comes into its own. Geometric shapes alternate in a very well thought-out composition of colors. It is an exceptional work by his hand and within his oeuvre. Next to that, the frame is in completely original condition. It was made and painted by the artist himself and the hand-carved double passe-partout was also made by him. This makes the work a very unique piece of art.

Engineer Foen Winters (1931-2020) was active as an architect for 25 years. Since 1974 he has concentrated on painting, particularly in gouache and house paint. The artist produced colorful still lifes of landscapes, flowers, but also portraits and townscapes.

He was very active in the social life of Leersum, his birthplace. This naturally led to the initiative to establish an art centre in the village, which took shape in the Stichting Kunstgilde (Art Guild Foundation), founded in 1989. This is still a vibrant art centre in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug.

Winters preferred to work in bright colors and strong contrasts.
