Harm Kamerlingh Onnes (1893–1985) was a Dutch painter and portraitist, born in Haarlem into a family with a rich artistic and scientific heritage—he was the grandson of Nobel-winning physicist Heike Kamerlingh Onnes. He trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he developed a refined technique that combined traditional realism with a sensitive observation of human character. Kamerlingh Onnes became known for his meticulously detailed portraits, capturing not only the physical likeness of his subjects but also their personality and mood, often portraying family members, friends, and prominent Dutch cultural figures.

His work extended beyond portraiture to include murals, drawings, and decorative art, frequently depicting domestic interiors and scenes of everyday Dutch life. His style was marked by clarity of line, careful composition, and subtle handling of light and color, creating a serene and intimate atmosphere. Though he worked during a period when modernist movements were gaining prominence, he remained committed to realism, bridging classical techniques with a modern sensitivity. Over his long career, Kamerlingh Onnes earned recognition for his technical mastery and his ability to convey character, and his works are preserved in major Dutch museums, reflecting an enduring contribution to 20th-century Dutch art.
