This etching is from the 1960s, the period in which Moonen made a name for himself as a subtle graphic artist who often experimented with special techniques. From the mid-1980s, painting and drawing became increasingly important in his oeuvre.
Speaking about his work, Moonen says: ‘It’s not about whether it’s good, but about how it gets there? I’m not sure about that: it comes into being. Your eyes have a lot to do.’
