Cornelis Brandenburg (1884-1954) was a Dutch painter, draftsman and mainly an etcher. He studied at the Teekenschool voor Kunstambachten in Amsterdam. After his education, he continued to work in Amsterdam as a plate painter at De Distel pottery.
After this, he concentrated entirely on etching, particularly of the city of Amsterdam, which he continued to do until his death. It is with these etchings that he eventually became famous.
Brandenburg was one of the most important etchers of Amsterdam’s canals. He was a member of Arti et Amicitae and made more than 100 etchings of beautiful Amsterdam. He died in his beloved Amsterdam in 1954.
