Wassenaar, 1956

Anton A.C. Labberton (1904-1987) was a Dutch painter known and loved especially abroad. He exhibited in Paris, in several cities in Germany and in Zurich. It wasn’t until 1980 that he had his first exhibition in the Netherlands.
Labberton was an uncompromising artist, who lived for his art from his suitcases and with his paint box, in simplicity. Like a traveling loner, he toured Europe, watercoloring the landscape in unusual abstractions of light, color and form.

Each of Labberton’s watercolors can be seen as an observation of a landscape, cityscape or village simplified to its essence, but also as an abstract composition with its own harmony.
