This early abstract painting from 1980 is a good example of Henk Padt experimenting with colour and abstracted forms on a large surface. In this period, the artist was working very playful in terms of composition and the use of loose brushstrokes. Provenance: Private collection (directly acquired from the artist)

Henk Padt (1947) loves painting on large format. He lives and works in Alkmaar and is educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Acadamy in Amsterdam (1968). In the mid-70s he started making abstract paintings. In the following years, figurative elements were added to his abstract work, and in 1985 he produced his first entirely figurative works. These were mainly romantic realistic.

From the ‘90s onwards he painted mainly abstract work and occasionally produced figurative art. In this work, he is bound to the colour and line of the figuration, but the colour determines the expression. This leads to a completely recognisable own signature.

In recent years, he has mainly painted abstract, colourful paintings.
