Jurjen Fontein (1949) is a Dutch painter, watercolorist and graphic artist born in Malang, Indonesia. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and Visual Communication at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.
He spent most of his working life in Amsterdam, but he exhibited all over the world: Berlin, New York and Singapore, among other places. His oeuvre mainly consists of landscapes and street scenes, of which his screen prints are most popular.
This watercolor is quite irregular in terms of the large format, but the terrace scene in a bright city environment is certainly among his specialties.
Fontein is known for his “joie de vivre”, which is reflected in all of his screen prints and watercolors. His many trips to the Far East reinforced the intensity of his work.
In 2001, he founded Art Event. There, he organizes and supervises creative workshops for business and private groups. Since 2007 he has also been associated with Graffiti Workshops as a creative coach.
